Starting in the car
business in 1931, our grandfather, Berwyn Sr. set the stage for Mark
& Scott Detweiler today.
Berwyn Sr. saw many changes in the automobile business from the
beginning, starting right after the depression. There had to
be some rough times for a few years. Then World War II came &
again business was a little "lean" during & after.
Then the 1950's & 1960's came along & things got better. You
could get cars right after the war but steel was scare so not a lot
of cars were built.
In the late 1950's & early 1960's Studebaker, which was their
dealership, was struggling & eventually went out of business in
After a few struggling franchises later, Pontiac became available in
1973 & lasted until 2004.
Since then used cars became even more important. The focus has
changed somewhat in that the "Dets" have been stocking & selling the
more "affordable" cars & trucks in the $5,000 to $10,000 range.
In March of 2015 , Mark & Scott took over from Berwyn Jr. who still
comes to work everyday like he has for the last 70 years.
Nothing has changed in the way Mark & Scott do business.
Lessons learned from the senior "Dets" have proven invaluable & we
hope to be here for a long time.
